A small, emergency babysitting option in Southeast Oak Park.
Created to fill the childcare gap on those tough work days when your nanny calls out sick or your child is sent home and can’t attend school/daycare until cleared by a doctor.
Care is provided by an experienced neighborhood mom in her home (learn more about Kelly here) and focused on rest, comfort, and following parents’ guidelines.
How many children do you take?
I generally keep enrollment to just one kiddo, or a sibling set. I know that makes availability very limited and spots will fill up quickly but I want to make sure everyone gets plenty of comfort and attention.
Is my child the only one there?
No, I'm a SAHM, so my preschooler will be present for part of the day and my older kiddos come home between 3 and 4:30pm, depending on activities. However, your child will have their own private bedroom on the main level close to the living area, kitchen and a half bath. Of course, if they're feeling up to it, they can venture out into the living area and basement playroom! Learn more about your child's space here.
What are your hours?
Generally, I'm available to provide care between 7:30am and 5:30pm, but I'm flexible and can accommodate most work schedules. Drop-in care is also available when space allows.
What kinds of illnesses do you accept?
I can care for kids with common illnesses, including:
◾Viral colds/flus (sneezing, coughs, runny noses)
◾Fevers (low grade or able to be lowered with medication)
◾Ear infections
◾Pink eye (after treatment has started)
◾Sore throat/Strep (after treatment has started)
◾Stomach bugs
For everyone’s safety, I’m not able to take children with high fevers not controlled by meds, severe symptoms, or children who need one-on-one medical care.
Will you administer medications?
Yes, you will need to provide the medication and dosage instructions and complete a short form providing authorization.
How much does it cost?
◾Age 0-3 years is $40/hour
◾Ages 4 to 12 years old is $35/hour
◾Second child is discounted 30% off regular rate
Are you able to provide transportation?
Sometimes! We have a large van and the necessary car seats, but availability depends on the time of day and location. An additional charge may apply.
What does a sick day at The Resting Nest look like?
If your kiddo isn't feeling well, it will be a slow, gentle day — rest time, quiet play, books, movies, cozy blankets, simple meals/snacks, and lots of reassurance. Nothing busy or overstimulating. If your child is not feeling ill, we'll have more active play time.
How do I book a day?
Message me as soon as you know you need care. Even if it's the middle of the night. I’ll let you know if I have space and go over next steps.
Why did you start this?
I started this because I’ve been there — the call from the school nurse, the middle of the night fever right before an important day, the pit in your stomach, the guilt of leaving a sick kid when you have no other option. My goal is simply to help fill in on those days and give parents one less thing to worry about.
